It’s officially spring! The days are getting longer and the good old British weather is certainly brightening up a little, so let’s make the most of it! Has there ever been a better time to spruce up your outdoor space? Follow Arthur’s garden trend guide for some inspo!
1.Natural Materials
Gardening Design magazine says that after years of minimalist themes dominating garden designs, natural is back! Apparently designers are now opting for the more traditional DIY look. Try adding some more rustic garden furniture to your outdoor space such as swinging seats, cast iron tables and railway sleeper benches to soften the vibe.
2.”Swedish Cool’
Ideal Home magazine tips the “Swedish Cool” vibe as this years hottest garden trend, saying that the interior design trends “hygge” and “lagom” can be replicated outside! Think fire pits and cosy outdoor blankets to keep you warm on those chilly British evenings after BBQs, as well as naturally inspired planting motifs with clean designs.
3.Light it up!
Feature lighting is set to become a big garden trend this year. If you’re lucky enough to have a large outdoor space, why not go for something eye-catching to add a stylish feature; placing lanterns along either side of a pathway or in close proximity along the edge of a wall might just do the trick! If you’re working with a smaller space it might be worth considering a softer look using solar powered fairy lights between branches or amongst shrubbery.
4. Veggie patches
Going green and growing your own fruit and veg has certainly been a garden trend which has surged in popularity during the past few years. Many people are increasingly interested in keeping things organic and local when it comes to food – so why not jump on the ‘green fingers’ bandwagon and convert a small section of your garden into a vegetable patch this Spring?!
5. Mix robust and delicate plants
CountryLiving magazine says that combining strong hardy plants (like succulents and hydrangeas) with more pretty romantic varieties (such as roses or wisteria) will give your garden that full look without requiring especially high maintenance.
6. Outdoor kitchens
Again, this garden trend is somewhat space dependent, but if you’re fortunate to be blessed with some extra outdoor space then installing an outdoor kitchen (of sorts) could be a great way to put that extra space to use. A simple gas BBQ might be all you need for entertaining in the coming summer months, but some counter space, storage space, a sink or even a bar can really give your garden that element of luxury that you might be after. In keeping with the ‘Natural Materials’ trend, it might be worth considering brickwork or slate.
