Can you believe we’re already nearing the end of February? Two months into 2016, we think it’s prime time to dig out that DIY kit or call in the decorators as Arthur takes a look at some of this year’s hottest interior design trends.
Who doesn’t love wine!? Well, even if you don’t, you can’t deny that a wall full of the stuff makes a great centrepiece and adds that element of luxury to any kitchen, dining room or even lounge area. Obviously you can go all out and get a temperature controlled cabinet with special-effect lighting etc. etc, but even the most simply-styled wine rack can give a room that luxury effect you’re after if you place it right and keep it stocked!
2. Mixed Patterns & Textures
A variety of blogs on interior design trends this season have been discussing the importance of mixing patterns. They are all seeming to suggest that we mismatch the centre pieces of our rooms, whether thats a crazy multi-pattern bed spread, or an eclectic mix of cushions on your sofa… Why not try out some exotic flora and fauna prints? African-style animal prints are also set to be in style this season. Be bold and begin to mix pleated, cotton, velvet and yarns in order to texturise your fabric types.
3. Go Navy!
Navy is the new black. It’s a relatively neutral colour that tends to pair up perfectly with whatever other colour scheme you might have going on in that room. Plus, it won’t make a smaller-sized room feel as dark as black or grey might! If you’re sceptical, why not try out a softer, grey-toned navy instead of the darker moodier tones.
4. Expose that Brickwork
Exposed brickwork has admittedly been in fashion for years, but it doesn’t look set to go anywhere soon in 2017. In fact, it’s becoming so popular that people are looking to achieve the sought-after effect by cladding walls with thin slices of bricks. If you’re going for that rough industrial vibe, then this design feature works best in kitchens.
5. Tech-up your Games Room
Man caves are taking over! Think big cinema-style screens, luxury-looking sofas and the all important built-in sound systems that can be linked to ITunes or Spotify – it’s the way forward!
Marble is the design trend set to take over this year. Whether it’s real or fake, it doesn’t matter… you’ve got to have some sort of marble addition to your interior decor! Marble often takes pride of place on kitchen work tops, but now it’s featuring on ornaments, wall coverings, upholstery, fabrics and even carpets. Check out Pinterest for some design inspo!
